Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOTV) - Before you hang up the mistletoe here are some simple safety tips to baby proof your home this season!

There are a lot of moms I know who simply teach their child to stay away from the tree.  My little mischief-maker just can't be trusted.  I actually think he would either tackle the tree or try to chew the lights so I always say "better to be safe- than end up in the ER".   If you want to baby proof your tree we found using a baby gate worked really great!   You can also harness the tree and attach it to the wall so it won't topple over on your toddler.

Other ideas include switching to shatterproof ornaments in case your little darling decides to break a bulb and always tuck away the dangling strands of lights that could tempt your baby.

Holiday plants should be kept out of reach or out of the house until baby knows better than to nibble on them.  Many holiday plants are toxic to pets and humans.
