Gender reveal parties big baby trend

Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOTV) - Gender reveal parties are a hot trend. As a Type-A planner personality it about killed me trying to decorate a gender-neutral nursery.  But my surprise loving side won out and I waited 9 long months to find out the sex of my baby. 

Get the best of both worlds by throwing a gender reveal party !  Invite the gals and the guys for this fun party where you and your loved ones will find out the sex of your baby!  Start by having your x-ray technician write the sex of the baby in a sealed envelope.  Don't peek, just hand it straight to your baker or party planner.  Have them incorporate pink or blue into your surprise element.

Now it's time to gather your close friends and family for an intimate dinner, a backyard bbq or a more elegant appetizer and dessert party.   Decorate in pink and blue and incorporate a few fun games to round out your theme.  Let everyone make their predictions and then cut your special delivery cake to reveal if baby-to-be will be your new little prince or princess.

Ideas for a gender reveal party

-Try theming your party.  Some of the cutest ones I've seen are "Baby it's cold outside" or a "Cravings" themed party ,

-Have your baker use food coloring to dye the inside of your cake pink or blue.

-Designate one person to secretly open the envelope and purchase pink/blue confetti poppers or create their own. Here's some we love!

-Fill a pinata with pink or blue confetti or candy.  When it bursts the surprise will be revealed.

-Have someone fill a box with helium balloons in blue or pink.  You and your hubby get to unwrap this special gift!

-Have your baker make cake pops and treat it like a lottery.  When guests bite into this sweet treat one person will have the lucky pink or blue colored pop and gets to share the suprise!

-Theme your foods to fit your party.   Pregnancy craving foods like sweet, salty, spicy and sour! 

-Create specialty pink and blue cocktails and mocktails.
