Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOTV) - Cold and flu season is in full swing and it's a constant battle to keep the germs at bay.   I decided to poll my facebook friends to see what fellow parents are doing to keep their kids healthy this season.  Here's some tried and true tactics from local parents just like you!

Parents Best Advice for Fighting Cold & Flu

Carly's Tip: My husband is a teacher and is around a LOT of germs.  Before he even interacts with our son he runs and changes out of his work clothes and washes his hands and face.  I recommend this to anyone who works around kids or the public.

Elissa's words of wisdom: As parents taking our adult vitamins and feeding our daughter lots of vitamin c-rich foods. And wash hands, wash hands, wash hands!

Mike's advice: My wife is a Clinical Coordinator at Metro Health. Whenever I've visited her at work I've noticed foam hand sanitizer dispensers all over the place. I think this less than $20 should be a staple in a home as well. The foam is much less sticky than gel and kids willingly use it because it's 'bubbles!!!".

Jamey's tip: A daily vitamin for toddlers (liquid form) and hand washing. That's one of the best things to teach a child. I've found that the handle on shopping carts are contaminated with snotty nosed kids germs. Definitely use the sanitary wipes provided in stores and give it a quick wash before placing your child into the cart.

Sarah's mommy tricks: Lots of cleaning. Door handles, switches, anything we touch basically.

Julie's advice: Antibacterial soaps and cleaners, vitamins and tea, and making sure we get lots of fruits and veggies!

West Michigan Women's Expo: Tell them to sneeze in their elbow, and I am consistently lysoling the door knobs and counters and telephone and keyboard, etc.
