Marguax's training: off to the races

It's official! The paperwork has been submitted and most importantly I made the commitment to myself that I will run in the inaugural Gazelle Girl 1/2 Marathon next month representing WOTV 4 Women. Gazelle Girl is a race honoring women, the 40th anniversary of Title IX and Gazelle Sports commitment to making West Michigan the nation's healthiest region. Yeah, I'm "all about" all of that! Add in the fact that WOTV 4 Women is a TV station FOR West Michigan Women, BY West Michigan Women and my only question was "where do I sign up?". Sounds like a perfect match. With one exception...

Confession: I have not been training, properly.

I have been a runner for over 20 years, but the last two months have been easily the busiest of my life, which is great! I love my work with Spartan Stores and WOTV for Women, but there was one piece of my life that had to be set on the back burner (cooking pun completely intended) as I navigate a new job and that was my long distance running. Sure, I managed to squeeze in a run here and there. But, consistency, hills, speed workouts and my cherished long weekend runs…not-so-much.

This is normal stuff though. Life happens and we must be flexible or we tend to break things. So, I'm going for it anyway. My training has not been perfect. I most likely will not PR this one, but it's all about the journey ladies. Join me on my journey for the next 5 1/2 weeks as I do the runners equivalent of cramming for an exam.

Ready or not, Gazelle Girl,  HERE I COME!
