Grand Rapids, MI (WOTV) - Transitioning to a healthy lifestyle is NOT about making huge sweeping changes overnight, those things are overwhelming and rarely stick with us. What really works are those little changes that you make one by one, over time. They become habit and they slowly, painlessly become your new healthy lifestyle, for example let's talk SALT.

One simple, easy and healthy change you can make: EAT REAL SALT! Salt without anti-caking agents, additives, chemicals or heat processing. Glance at the ingredient label on your salt container at home, it should simply read: Salt or Sea Salt.

Your body needs salt to function properly. It's when we over-consume convenience, processed and packaged food that we get mega doses of salt and that is not good for our bodies. Everything in moderation!

Real salt comes from the sea or ancient seas that have since dried but left behind mineral-rich salt deposits. The flecks you see in the photo above are the minerals and those are beneficial for your body as well.

Check your salt and make the switch, if necessary. These little changes can contribute to a healthy NEW YOU in 2013!

* Real Salt is available in the baking isle of your local D&W Fresh Market .
