Grand Rapids, Mich (WOTV) - Here's a fun and healthy Halloween snack idea for kids as they come home from school using items you probably already have in your kitchen, apple monsters! You can surprise your kids by having them pre-made or get the kids involved and have a DIY apple monster bar where they can have a BLAST creating their own googlie-eyed edible monster with ingredients that you have provided. Smaller children many need help with cutting the mouth area.

Apple Monsters

(V/GF/R)

Apples

Lemon Juice

Pumpkin Seeds

Berries

Dates

Raisins

Peanut Butter or Raw Almond Butter

Toothpicks

Preparation:

Cut out mouth reserving the wedge for the tongue and brush all exposed areas with lemon juice so that the apple will not oxidize (brown). Push pumpkin seeds into place for teeth, add peanut butter in mouth, cut the wedge to fit back in mouth as the tongue securing it with a toothpick, and have fun with the eyes and nose. Cut a flat slice off of the bottom of the apple so your monster's full scariness can be viewed properly;)

We would love to see your apple monsters! Post your pics on WOTV 4 Women's Facebook page.
