How to pick the right running shoe

5 common mistakes when shoe shopping

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) - Finding the right running shoe can be a hassle, and selecting the wrong one can lead to foot problems and feeling uncomfortable. Check out these 5 common mistakes so you can avoid them.

Mistake #1: Assuming your size

All shoes fit and feel differently, so don't go to the store with the idea that an 8 will be the only size that fits. Play around with half-sizes bigger or smaller to see what feels the most comfortable.

Mistake #2: Not considering insoles

Everyone's feet flex and pronate differently. Sometime extra arch support is needed. Try sampling an insole in the store, it could be a world of difference.

Mistake #3: Going for the most expensive shoe

Price and quality often go hand in hand, but just because a certain shoe's price is sky high doesn't mean it is better for you. Don't be afraid to try on some deals, they may be just as comfortable for half the price.

Mistake #4: Shoe shopping in the morning

You may not feel like dragging yourself out to shop at 5 p.m., but this is the most ideal time to find your perfect running shoe. Your feet swell as you go through the day and this can affect your foot size more than you think. Having shoes that are too big or too small can cause blisters and pain while running. Getting your shoes in the evening ensures the perfect fit.

Mistake #5: Buying for looks

Buying exercise clothes you look great in is a big confidence booster, but when it comes to your shoes stick with comfort. Buying shoes that look great will not help you perform better, so if you want to add some flare do it with your shorts.
