The 4th Annual Healthy Paws for a Healthy Cause "Fun Run/Walk" was a huge success. Sammy and I joined the Cascade Hospital for Animals walk, along with over 60 other West Michigan locals.

All of the proceeds from the walk went to benefit the Humane Society of Kent County and Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary.

Dr. Lynn A. Happel, of CHFA, and the organizer of the walk also gave me some one on one tips for Sammy, and how I can keep him happy and healthy throughout the hot West Michigan summer. You can see more of Cascade Hospital for Animals' advice each week on Sammy's Pet Tip of the Week .

Each of the four legged participants sported a Cascade Hospital for Animals "Healthy Paws for a Healthy Cause" bandanna, which matched their owners tee's. Blushing K-9's were awarded medals for their efforts after the walk, which they proudly wore for photo opps.

Cascade Hospital for Animals also awarded several abundantly packaged gift baskets for several furry friends.

SAMMY'S WALK

Sammy began his walk like a champion. For those of you who know Sammy on a personal level, you know that his exercise endurance is a bit below par, mimicking the activity of a snail. This is why he is adoringly referred to as "our little round hound."
After about 1/2 a mile, his little legs, or shall I say "attitude" decided that it was time for a little "R and R" (rest and relaxation) on the walking path.

Since it was important for Sammy to understand propper sportsmanship by finishing the walk, I decided to "stroll" him in the doggie stroller that he received as a gift at his birthday bash.

Like a pea in a pod, he enthusiastically sat up and watched the other dogs delightfully walk as he easily strolled along side the other participants.
Although cute and amusing, a lesson here obviously was not learned. Once Sammy reached the finish line, he victoriously raised his head so the participation medal could be placed around his neck.

A medal for participation, which he obviously mistook for a first place ribbon.
