Dogs and Cats wont always cry out when in pain

For older dogs and cats, don’t assume that because they don’t cry out, they don’t have arthritis or joint pain. Animals tend to be perceived as stoic. It is a natural instinct for them to hide pain and illness as long as possible. Many older pets have some degree of arthritis and discomfort, so watch for changes in their normal behaviors, sleeping patterns or positions.

If you’re pet is lying next to a bed instead of on it, not getting up into the window seat, or not climbing the cat tree anymore, these may be signs for concern. If you notice limping when first getting up, or staying downstairs more than normal, these are all signs of possible issues. If any of these changes are noted, contact your veterinarian for options on how you can keep your pet comfortable while enjoying their daily activities.
