Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOTV) - A prenuptial agreement is a legal contract between two people who are about to marry. It spells out how assets will be divided if the marriage fails. What should you know about pre-nups?

You should be given plenty of time prior to signing a pre-nup. If he springs it on you a week before the wedding it is a huge red flag.

The agreement should be fair. For instance the couple plans on the woman staying home to raise children, the pre-nup may include provisions for compensating her for interrupting her career.

Prenuptial agreements are difficult to fight once signed so be sure you are protected.

Always have an attorney review it for you and listen carefully to his or her advice.
