GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) - March is reading month! Getting your kids to read can be a challenging task, but one that's worth all the time and effort you can give! Here are 4 ways you can encourage your kids to read:
1. Start early. Read aloud to your child and introduce books into their life at a young age.
2 . Create a reading sanctuary. Kids love comfy pillows and big blankets. Dedicate a corner of their bedroom to reading and allow them to make the space themselves!
3. Visit your local library. Allow kids to browse the bookshelves until they find something they are interested in. And, get them their very own library card. Not only will this make them feel like a grown-up, but it will teach them responsibility as well!
4. Have a reward system. If bedtime in your home is 8:30, allow your kids to keep the lights on till 9:00 if they'd like to read. Most kids will do anything to extend bedtime!
