GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - E.S.C.A.P.E. Kids Fire Prevention was founded in 1995 as a means to deliver safe and effective fire and life safety training to children and adults of all ages.
Firefighters have always been a positive roll model to our children, and through education and awareness, children know what to do when they encounter an emergency situation after completing an E.S.C.A.P.E. course. One of the teaching tools that E.S.C.A.P.E. uses is Jake the Fire Safety Dog. Jake is a black Labrador retriever service canine, that is licensed as a working service animal, recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ADA.
Jake teaches children about fire and life safety through out the Great Lakes and New England regions by visiting schools and daycare centers and community events, including Maranda's Park Parties.
Jake has learned to demonstrate making the "right choice", such as not hiding under a bed if there is fire or smoke conditions and not using tobacco products that could result in fires. He is famous for being able to demonstrate of to "stop, drop and roll" for children and "get out and stay out."
