Enjoy a week full of science exploration during the Air Zoo's summer camp experiences, designed for kids ages 4-17. Air Zoo educators will share the pure joy of flight with campers through hands-on activities and interactive experiments. Campers get an in-depth look at the Air Zoo, including the 4D theater, full-motion flight simulators and much more. All Air Zoo campers will receive:
- An Ultimate Ace wristband to enjoy our rides and attractions
- An Air Zoo T-shirt
- A daily snack and juice
- A summer camp patch
A complete list of camp options are listed below. To register or for more information, contact the Air Zoo at 269-350-2848.
Two is Twice the Fun
Ages 4-5
June 15
Enjoy an adventure with your child by exploring flight! Learn about the magic of air, construct wonderful flying creations and discover aviation in this hands-on camp. Kids will receive a foam plane, foam rocket blaster, rocket balloons, pilot hat and tote bag. Each child and adult will receive an Ultimate Ace wristband along with lunch.
Earn Your Wings
Grades 1-2
June 25-27
Campers will examine the forces of flight and visit with feathered friends! They'll investigate aviation and space travel in this exciting camp, and earn their pilot wings! They'll also have the chance to build and launch their own model rocket. Campers will receive a model rocket, foam plane, foam rocket blaster, rocket balloons and pilot wings.
Family Rocket Clinic
July 7
Families will experience the Air Zoo in a whole new way while making great memories! Have fun together while embarking on a scavenger hunt, experimenting with the physics of space and playing astronaut games! Each family will build and launch two Estes model rockets, which they'll be able to take home.
Cosmic Space Camp
Grades 2-4
July 9-13
Campers will become space explorers by learning all about Newton's Law of Gravity and his Laws of Motion. They'll discover what NASA does when it launches a rocket into orbit or a deep space probe, and then build and launch their very own rockets! Campers will learn all about astronauts and make their own space suits. They'll "travel through space" and learn about planets and stars during this fun week of discovery. Campers will receive a model rocket, foam pump rocket, rocket balloons, Jupiter Juice and a pizza party on the last day.
Beginner R/C Camp
Grades 6-12
July 23-25
$300
One of the most popular camps is back! Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly an R/C aircraft? Now is your chance! Campers will learn how to fly R/C aircraft from an experienced pilot, and learn all about aerodynamics and flight controls, in addition to the physics of aviation. Campers will receive a balsa wood glider, radio control airplane, tote bag and a pizza party on the last day.
Boys Science Academy
Grades 5-7
August 6-10
Boys will be introduced to flight and make their own flying creations, including building and launching a model rocket. Campers will experience a behind-the-scene tour of the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport and learn about the evolution of flight, while utilizing aviation skills to craft a personalized wooden propeller, airfoil, and key chain! The camp will have an exciting finish with an introductory flight in a real airplane with a flight instructor! Campers will receive a model rocket, foam plane, foam rocket blaster, tote bag and a pizza party on the last day.
Girls Science Academy
Grades 5-7
August 6-10
Girls will be introduced to flight and make their own flying creations, including building and launching a model rocket. They'll experience a behind-the-scene tour of the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport and learn about the evolution of flight. Campers will utilize their aviation skills to craft a personalized wooden propeller, airfoil and key chain! The week will have an exciting finish with an introductory flight in a real airplane with a flight instructor! Girls will receive a model rocket, foam plane, foam rocket blaster, tote bag and a pizza party on the last day.
Advanced Boys Science Academy
Grades 8-12
August 13-17
Cadets will experiment with Bernoulli's Principle and Newton's Laws of Motion, along with learn how to navigate and control aircraft in flight. They'll take a field trip to Duncan Aviation in Battle Creek, where aircraft are refurbished, WMU's College of Aviation, and either the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base or WACO Classic Aircraft Corp. Boys will be introduced to concepts in aviation and space flight, and will utilize different aviation skills to create a personalized propeller and key chain. They'll also build and launch their own rocket, but the highlight of the week will be when cadets fly with an instructor and take over the controls of an aircraft! Campers will receive a model rocket, foam plane, foam rocket blaster, tote bag and a pizza party on the last day.
