GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - Most people pick a movie based on the reviews, word of mouth feedback and if the subject matter looks appealing. But, it's also important to think about the rating, especially if taking children to the film. Maranda talked with Steve Van Wagoner of Celebration Cinema about what each of the four ratings mean and how to judge if a film is appropriate for your child to see.
G - A G rating means for general audiences and all ages will be admitted. It is very rare to find G rated movie these days, but once and a while a Pixar film will contain the G rating. G means that there is absolutely no bad language, nudity, violence or other matters that would be offensive to children or adults.
PG - A PG rating means parental guidance and parents should investigate the film before letting their younger children attend. Head online to www.celebrationcinema.com and read why the film has a PG rating and them judge if your child will be comfortable with this and can handle the content. PG means there may be more mature themes like mild profanity or violence.
PG 13 - A PG 13 rating means that parents are strongly cautioned that some portions of the movie are inappropriate for children under the age of 13. This includes violence, brief nudity, language and drug use.
R - R means that it's a restricted rating and those under the age of 17 will not be admitted without an adult. R rated films include adult themes, strong language, intense violence, sexually oriented nudity, drug use and are not suitable for young children.
Celebration Cinema always recommends reading the movie description and why it was given a certain rating before going to the film. Get more information at www.celebrationcinema.com.
