Budget-friendly Valentine's date ideas

Ladies, here are some things for you to do and some things to send along as ideas to your significant other.

• Women - Grab a 6pk of your guy's favorite beer and whip up a dessert (even if it's out of a box) and settle in for some qualitly time without a lot of expense.

• Families - Turn down the heat, snuggle under a blanket together and pop a bowl of popcorn. Melt some chocolate chips to drizzle over it or add a little season salt for flavor.

• Include a personal note in your order.
• Have it delivered to work or home, whichever will make it more special to the recipient.
• Make it more special by hand selecting a few stems of varying types of flowers from your local florist. Half a dozen spring flowers are a great choice and often less expensive than the traditional Valentine's roses.

Do dinner out, but don't break the bank. Check out the offers available on group discount sites, call local restaurants to find out if they are running a special or pick a place that offers atmosphere without a hefty price tag.

• Do dessert only. Make dinner in and head out after the big rush for just dessert. You don't have the expense of a full meal, but get out for a special moment.

Get the whole family involved. Skip the expense of a babysitter on top of everything else and make it a family date night in or out.

• Have a family card exchange. Take them to Dollar Tree to check out some fun items  for crafts on the cheap. Let them pick out a toy, candy or special bath product while you are there.
• Surprise a parent with dinner. Get the kids involved by making finger foods, cutting sandwiches with cookie cutters or letting them decorate dessert.
