Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOTV) - It's a wicked weekend for Halloween fun and special events downtown. Whether you're looking for a charitable event or a place to wear your scariest frock, my top 4 picks have you covered. Here are this week's top 4 Social Sizzle happenings.
1. Let's Toga for Special Olympics
“Let’s Toga for Special Olympics” will be held at Eve at The B.O.B. in downtown Grand Rapids on Friday, October 26 from 6:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. The Greek-themed evening will feature a silent and live auction of Special Olympian created artwork, Greek hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, dancing and a “Best Toga Costume” contest with $100 Gilmore Collection restaurant prize. Tickets are just $35 and are still available.
Event Coordinator and Special Olympics Michigan Southwest Office Manager Jolon Hull said, “Everyone likes to have fun and everyone likes to feel included. We ask you to celebrate with us whether you're wearing a toga or not! Tickets are available on line at www.somi.org/toga or at the door.
2. Rockn’ the Runway
On Friday join the fight in a one-of-a-kind event. It’s the 2nd annual Rockn' The Runway. Enjoy hot fashions modeled by Breast cancer survivors as they rock the runway downtown. Support a great cause and celebrate survivors for a night of fun and fashion. Rockn’ the Runway will take place at the Crossroads Conference Center located at 6569 Clay Ave SW downtown Grand Rapids. The celebration kicks off at 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
It’s a dash through darkness during this year’s Zombie Dash. Come out to play one of two roles. Be a Survivor/Runner and run a 5K as darkness falls throughout Grand Rapids. You'll dodge zombies and run through trees while keeping your flag away from the dead. Or if you like to be the one who scares, dress and act like a zombie! Freak out the survivors and grab their flags. Runners will need to wear a reflector light when darkness hits. The Zombie run will take place at Ah-Naba-Wen Park located at 220 Front Ave at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
*Cost:
-Runners: $35 early bird rate, includes long sleeve tech shirt
