Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOTV) - Recently while enjoying breakfast I had opportunity to read a column from the Grand Rapids Press. The topic was all about peoples views on tattoos. There were more than a few readers who had written in to say that they felt tattoos were offensive, were only for service men or circus sideshows and someone who wrote in that they would be reluctant to hire someone with a visible tattoo. This was all so interesting to me as someone who has many tattoos and quite a few that are visible. I am also someone who is a small business owner, a mother and wife, a teacher and on occasion a leader in my community.

I am grateful that WOTV 4 Women has chosen to allow me to be their wellness expert. I am grateful that WOTV chose to see me as more than the markings on my skin that perhaps are foreign to others. The tattoos that I have chosen to line my inner arms are words that are rules for me to endeavor to live by. Words like Ahimsa, Satya and Seva, that mean to Be Kind to All, to be Truthful always and to perform acts of Seva or Selfless Service. I might not always succeed in my efforts to live this way but my tattoos are there to remind me to keep trying.

I do not know of what other people have chosen to decorate their skin or body with or why. But then, that is for them to decide just as the way they might chose to wear their clothes or style their hair.
