Grand Rapids, Mich (WOTV) - The number one hesitation that I’ve seen with customers at Talsma’s is: I’m scared to combine patterns. Combining patterns can be challenging but it can also be a breeze. A few tricks to boost your combining pattern confidence.
Consider your room size: you don’t want to go too big or too small. You are looking for a happy medium with pattern size. Small patterns can disappear in a large room while big patterns can overwhelm a small space.
We all dress ourselves in clothes that are appealing and flattering to us. Think along the same lines for your space. Create the room’s wardrobe in the same way you choose an outfit to wear. Use accessories and colors that speak to you and that you like. Start with the larger pieces and add accessories as you go!
A good rule of thumb while picking out patterns: 60/30/10 rule. Use 60% of your favorite patterns, 30% of a second favorite, and 10% of a third as an accent.
