Grand Rapids, MICH (WOTV) - I am not a do- it- yourself kind of gal. I really try to be. I post all of the cool ideas on Pinterest with hope of being able to make my end product look like the pictures. The end product seems to turn out like a grade school project gone bad. That is, my friends, until this week. I have wanting to add depth and interest to my dining room. Well, it isn’t really a room; it is more of a small dining space. I came across a brilliant idea from a friend on her blog, Liz Marie Blog . You should check her out. She does great work! She made floor length curtains that were so easy to make and very inexpensive! Here’s how:
Instead of curtains use table cloths! Brilliant idea! They are so much cheaper than typical curtains. I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. They were about $13 a piece and if you have a coupon, you have a better deal. They had few options for color. I opted for white for my dining room to help lighten it up a bit. Make sure to run the table clothes in the dryer for a bit. It helps break up the wrinkles from the package. I hung the table cloth with ring clips. You can find them at Lowe’s for about $5. One pack per panel will do the trick but you can put as many or as little ring clips on the table cloth. The rods were purchased at Lowes as well. They were about $10 per rod.
To create a room that looks and feels bigger, hang the curtains about 6-8 inches above the window. It elongates the window and makes your ceilings look higher. This was exactly what I wanted to accomplish since our dining space is pretty small. Here is the before and after pictures. What do you think? Make sure to check out Liz and what she did with her curtains.
