GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - The countdown is on for the 2013 Fifth Third River Bank Run. In just under two months the streets of downtown Grand Rapids will be filled with runners tackling the 5K, 10K and 25K races. 10 of these runners are the Fifth Third River Bank Run Road Warriors, a select group of people with various running abilities all training for the 25K.
One of these Road Warriors is Joann Karpowicz. Joann's journey with health and wellness began as a child, when she struggled with being overweight. Throughout her childhood she was teased for being overweight and it wasn't until 7th grade when a gym teacher helped motivate her to try intramural sports that she transformed her body.
Since then, Joann has been committed to inspiring others to understand proper diet, nutrition and the benefits of regular exercise. As a Road Warrior, Joann has been educating the community by publicly speaking out about her struggles and triumphs in the hopes to inspire others to give running a try.
