GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - For 52 years, Wedgwood Christian Services has been working tirelessly to transform the lives of West Michigan kids, one child at a time. Wedgwood Christian Services is one of Michigan's experts for helping hurting children, teens, and families facing issues including physical, sexual and substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, learning difficulties and behavioral issues.
April is Child Abuse Prevention month and Wedgwood wants to make families aware of the variety of services they offer. Wedgwood offers life skills classes to parents that need assistance to avoid preventable situations. Abuse is something that often starts with good people that have a lack the skills and are experiencing struggles. The stress and tension builds up and people act out in ways they regret. Through educational programming in the community and on-site counseling, Wedgwood works to combat abuse before it begins.
On the other end of the spectrum, Wedgwood's campus is home to secure residential treatment centers for youth between the ages of 8 and 17 who have experienced abuse and/or neglect. These youth may be referred due to aggression, self-destructive behavior, running behavior, defiance of authority, self-harming or other high risk behaviors. For these children, Wedgwood serves as a place for healing and treatment.
For more information on Wedgwood's community and residential services, contact the Bouma Counseling Center at 616-942-7294. Wedgewood is located at 3300 36th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512.
