Grand Rapids, Mich. - Thousands of people are waiting for organ transplants. Many people don’t realize it, but a donor can save eight lives and help more than fifty donor recipients. Many people wait for up to a decade on the transplant list in Michigan, so Jordan Carson went to talk to Carolyn Potter, a double-lung transplant recipient, about how people can find out if they can give the gift of life.

Caroline, like many donor recipients, incurred huge medical bills during and after the procedure. A double-lung transplant can cost $800, 000. Even with health insurance, follow-up care can add up to big bills.
The National Foundation for Transplants helps patients raise funds to pay for medical expenses. For more information on raising funds for someone you know, or to donate for Carolyn, log onto transplants.org.
September 15 is the date for a golf tournament in Carolyn’s honor at The Medalist Golf Club. Tee-off is scheduled for noon and golfers can sign up until that time to take part in the event.
