Rockford, Mich. (WOTV) - The Horsin' Around at the Derby event is a one-of-a-kind event where community members came to sport their most fabulous Derby Hat while enjoying a live auction, derby food and a LIVE simulcast of the big race.
"The Kentucky Derby is proud to partner with Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding at this event to benefit Equest's special equestrians" says Churchill Downs, Home of the Kentucky Derby.
The ribbon cutting and Grand Re-Opening of the center celebrated with more than 300 distinguished guests from the Greater Grand Rapids community. WOTV4Women's Maranda is Mistress of Ceremonies, and has been on Equest's Board of Directors for the past 10 years.
The Derby is a benefit for Equest Kids which provides therapy to physically, mentally, socially/emotionally challenged individuals. Did you know the Kostume Room is a wig bank for the American Cancer Society? They offer free wigs to anyone undergoing chemo or radiation. Gayle Vaartjes is the owner of the Kostume Room and came up with the idea after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. She was looking for a way to give back.
