This week as I am on a little retreat of sorts, I am noticing the almost immediate effects of my actions. Being away from the normalcy of my day-to-day activities in Grand Rapids and being disconnected from the routine week, has rejuvenated every part of my being. It makes me think I should do this more often right? However, it might not be a reality for everyone to do something like this, yet I think there are ways we can all enjoy the same results.
Suppose you spent a day unplugged? No phone, no internet, no television. No schedule if that makes you feel good. Giving your body a break too from whatever is opposite of your routine. So if you are a health fanatic and exercise regularly, eating only healthy foods suppose instead you read a book, walk in nature, and eat something a bit more naughty. And conversely if you routinely eat junk foods and are inactive, spend the day enjoying light exercise in the out of doors and eat only whole foods, drink water.
The days leading up to my time away I did not want to go! It seemed like a sentence and I felt my time would be better spent at home. But as they say the proof is in the pudding so here I am feeling amazing and restored.
So all I can say if give it a chance, see what one day disconnected from everything we think of as normal actually brings us closer to that very same thing.
