GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - We are mostly creatures of habit and one habit-forming practice I engage in is to “treat” myself when I feel (insert your trigger here…) stress, tired, productive or overwhelmed. Far too often however, we are in the habit of rewarding ourselves with something that is really no treat at all.
Commonly, we reach for a sweet treat to reward ourselves with. If your habit is to reach for a typical checkout lane piece of candy, it may be time to rethink that practice. When you are truly tired, stressed, etc., something of the junk food variety will give you a temporary high, but then likely drop you to an even lower low. Not worth it.
If you are into this type of food choice, try Unreal Candy. This brand has all of the same flavors and choices as traditional candies, yet uses 100% natural ingredients and is a slightly smaller size. Another great option is to buy the slightly more expensive organic and again natural choice. Chocolove is my personal favorite. Candy bars of this variety tend to be slightly larger; I like to break them up and eat them over a period of days. The higher quality candies will satisfy you in smaller amounts.
I think that it’s important that when we do need a treat, the reward is actually of benefit to us and satisfying as well.

In this melting pot we call America, now more than ever before, there’s a growing interest in preserving individual cultural traditions — before it’s too late. In our own community of Grand Rapids, one can find pockets of cultural shopping and crafts where folks are showing a new appreciation for their own origins. Sherwin-Williams Colormix 2014 forecast calls this palette INTRINSIC.
