GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOTV) - So obviously I love Yoga and am a strong believer in its benefits. Some people look at this practice as yet another form of exercise and compare it to pilates and the like but Yoga can be so much more than that. Taught in its truest sense, the practice of Yoga can literally transform a person. The physical benefits are of course the obvious. You can gain strength, flexibility, stamina. However what I think are the greatest of benefits are those that may not be outwardly visible. My students tend tell me about how much better they feel...stress levels drop, no one is sweating the small and sometimes even the large stuff. We become more patient, more kind, more graceful. Need more? A recent study suggests that the practice of Yoga changed the gene expression in the test subjects. What this means is that the Yoga buzz or glow that one feels after practice is much more than that. The blood structure of the participants had changed, tripling the number of genes in the immune system.
Most people first come to Yoga for the physical benefits, the rest comes as a surprise, subtle but growing each time they step onto a mat. That is the benefit for the teacher!
