GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - Using art as a design element really is an art in and of itself. Here are some tips to bring the spirit of your favorite masterpiece into your home.
Display like a gallerist: Keep the surroundings comparatively simple. Choose a monochromatic palette or stick with neutrals, highlighting a few accent colors pulled from the artwork or sculpture.
Get inspired by style: If a piece really speaks to you, but you can’t afford it, choose certain elements from it to incorporate into your own design. Another great idea is to use well-framed reproduction poster in your space. Or take your child’s artwork printed on a canvas and stretched on a frame for your very own contemporary masterpiece.
Use the artist’s toolbox: An artist works with color, proportion, texture, balance and rhythm to create appealing compositions in art; you can do the same with your furnishings. One word of caution – NO matchy-matchy please!
Go Local: Local artists are a great resource! Visit your local galleries; attend charity auctions or even your favorite coffee shop! You may just discover the next great artist!
