GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOTV) - A long weekend is a great time to consider those home improvement projects that may require more than two days. Here's some ideas to get you started!
Out with the old (flooring) and in with the new
This one will require the most prep work, but if done properly, will also give you the most bang for your buck, time and energy! The long weekend gives you plenty of time to completely empty the room of everything, take up the old flooring and put down some fabulous new vinyl plank or laminate flooring. Check the instructions; if you need to purchase or rent tools, do that on Friday or Saturday as some places may not be open for the rest of the holiday.
Organize your pantry or most used closet
With the kids going back to school (or maybe even gone from the house!) now is a perfect time to install an organizational system for your pantry or most used closet. This can literally double or triple the useable storage space. Wire or linen shelving, colorful baskets, antique ladder or even peg boards painted a bright color will make the task more fun and allow you to customize the space to your (new) needs.
Built-Ins brought in
You can achieve a custom look in any room by adding built-in shelving. And if you're not sure of your carpentry skills, start with a small built-in in the laundry room or half bath and hone your skills for more involved projects. And don't forget to look under the staircase! That empty space could be your new home office or "library" for all the books you can't bear to part with.
Paint a Room (or Two)
This one could be the easiest project to complete and again give your home a fresh new WOW look. Painting is the quickest and easiest home improvement project to complete over a weekend as most room can be primed and painted in two days.
